Speaking of her career, Campbell’s debut television appearance was at the age of six, when she portrayed in a 1974 PBS show The Big Blue Marble. As a child, she has won numerous talent shows going on to appear in such children’s programs as Kids Are People Too, Unicorn Tales, and Captain Kangaroo.
When she was 16, she performed to make her screen debut 1986 in the musical feature film, Little Shop of Horrors as Clifton, one of The Supremes like girl group Greek Chorus, along with future Martin co-star, Tichina Arnold.
In 1989 after starring in School Daze which ended in 1988, she co-starred in the crime film, Roof Tops, and following the next year, she starred alongside the famous comedian, singer, and actor, Eddie Murphy, in the action-comedy, Another 48 Hrs.
She then later acquired a supporting role in the 1992 romantic comedy, Boomerang. She is also notable for the 1990 comedy House Party for which Christopher Reid also portrayed, and for which she received Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Female nomination.
She later had co-starred in its two sequels; House Party 2 and House Party 3, 1991 and 1994 respectively. Campbell received her star billed role in the Trimark Pictured’s comedy film, Sprung in 1997.
Later had the leading role in the independent drama film The Last Place on Earth (2002), and appeared as Craig Robinson’s character wife in sex comedy film Zack and Miri Make a Porno (2008).
In 1992, Campbell was cast as Regina “Gina” Waters-Payne in the Fox comedy series March. However, she left the show in April 1997, after settling the lawsuit against Martin Lawerence of sexual harassment.
