Joan Jett’s parents are James Larkin (father) and Dorothy Jett Larkin (mother). Her father worked as an insurance salesman, while her mother was a secretary. Joan Jett is the oldest of three children. She shares her parents with her brother, James Larkin Jr., and her sister, Anne Larkin.

At the age of 16, Joan Jett became a founding member of The Runaways, an all-female rock band. Alongside drummer Sandy West, they created the classic lineup. The band recorded and released the hit song “Cherry Bomb.”
